Aug 23, 2013 by Jessica Cone

Dan Phillips, South Georgia Regional Director of the Alzheimer’s Association, Georgia Chapter, discussed recent programs and upcoming events on WTIF recently. The Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be held Sept. 28, at ABAC with registration at 9 a.m. and the walk begins at 10. People may register in advance at www.georgiawalk.org and click on Tifton.

“We had great turn out for the Alzheimer’s Research Update at the Tift Regional Community Event Center in Tifton Thursday, Aug. 22,” Dan said. Dr. Neill Graff-Radford of the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville spoke on the latest Alzheimer’s Research results. “Donations to the Alzheimer’s Association provide funds for Dr. Graff-Radford’s studies and enable us to offer community lectures and education programs to help caregivers. It also enables us to staff the 24/7 Helpline, 1-800-272-3900, to help people understand and cope with Alzheimer’s and related dementias.”

Upcoming fundraisers Phillips discussed include the Second Annual Benefit Dinner at First Baptist Church on Monday, Aug. 24; the Memory Lane raffle and night of live music, featuring a give-away of a donated Classic 1966 Chevy Pick-up, beginning at 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Holiday Inn, Valdosta; and the Second Annual Memories and a Mustang, at 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Bindery Event Center, 445 Oakland Parkway West, in Leesburg.Tickets for the Memory Lane event in Valdosta are $100, including the Chevy Pickup raffle, and $125 for the Memories and a Mustang, including the 1965 Mustang raffle.
