Ribbon Cutting held for the TCHS Agriscience Building

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held for the new Tift County High School Agriscience Building on June 23, 2011. The Agriscience Building houses the food processing program.The purpose of the food processing program is to provide instructional services in the areas of preparation, processing, and preservation of food products. Products prepared in the food processing centers are for home use by the individuals receiving these services.The Agricultural Education teachers of the Tift County School System are responsible for operating the Tift County Food Processing Center.

The Tift County Canning Plant is open to the public as follows: Monday thru Thursday – May 31, 2011 to July 14, 2011 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. (BY APPOINTMENT DURING ALL OTHER TIMES OF THE YEAR). The costs are minimal and are as follows: 60¢ per metal quart can or 15¢ per glass jar (glass jars are not provided by the facility) ;blanching for freezing cost only $1.00 per blanching tray (Over 50 ears of corn or 2 bushels of peas per tray).
