Members of the Chinese Delegation arrived at City Hall on Friday, May 28, 2010. Linyi’s vice mayor, Liu Yanxiang, was given key to the city. Tifton Mayor Jamie Cater presented Yanxiang a proclamation declaring the day as “Linyi City Day.” Officially, Tifton and Linyi, China, are “Sister Cities” following the visit from a Linyi delegation during their visit. Lynn Lovett, Chairman of the Tifton-Tift County Chamber of Commerce, presented a program on local industry, including Tifton’s agriculture-relatedbsinesses, as well as manufacturing offerings to those interested in location here. Flowing the events at City Hall, delegation members toured the University of Georgia’s Tifton Campus Conference Center, where they had lunch. After lunch, the group visited the NESPAL laboratory and other Tifton sites. According to the city’s proclamation, “both cities realize the value of a goodwill relationship that fosters understanding and communications between two ethnically and culturally diverse cities” and “we look forward to the opportunity to observe first-hand the social progress and economic development of both cities through this ‘Sister City’ initiative and to develop insights and associations with one another that will enrich all of our lives for many years to come.”
